Discovery

Kingsley Charter currently serves its gifted population in two distinct ways.

Identified gifted students come to Discovery once a week for a full-day.  The full day model allows the time necessary for gifted students to think and problem solve during the Discovery block.   The Discovery curriculum consists of 4 units that are aligned to level's Social Studies and Science Standards.

Kingsley is extremely fortunate to have a number of teachers on staff that also have their gifted endorsement. Students are served by these teachers during the school day within the regular classrooms as the curriculum is differentiated for all learners.

During the designated Discovery block, specific units of study are taught to meet the needs of the gifted population. The curriculum can be described as in-depth studies of themes and topics that might not ordinarily be available in the regular education classroom. The core areas of social studies, mathematics, language arts, and science are all taught within the one specific unit. The curriculum is quite challenging, as it incorporates the use of higher level thinking skills (specifically Bloom’s Taxonomy and Depth of Knowledge Levels III and IV), problem solving skills, and an emphasis on multiple intelligences as well as other learning modalities.
